Together We Rise | WTM Jalandhar

Hi all, I am Tanisha Rai, a B Tech CSE student and a proud member of WTM Jalandhar.

First, I would like to talk about Women Techmakers, Jalandhar. It was founded for girls to bridge the gap between women who are eager to lay their hands on the latest technology, with a mission to empower the community members by enhancing their skills to speak about their achievement or what they can do.

The first taste of community:

Because of the pandemic, 2020 was not so well for me. And, after some time, I started facing negativity. I wanted to do something that can divert my mind and then, my friend told me about the initiative by WTM Jalandhar — “Together We Rise”.

Together We Rise — The 6 Months initiative by WTM Jalandhar with the aim to help the community members especially females to enhance their career.

Without any second thought, I registered for it. When I received the confirmation mail, it made me really excited for the meetings. After attending my first meeting, the only thought came to my mind that “why didn’t I know about it before?”. The sessions were really amazing and from the very first session, I felt free to talk about my queries. After joining the group, I started to know about what others were doing at that time and that motivated me a lot.

Below are my experiences from the sessions I attended and how they helped me to grow.

Let’s Introspect & Be a Spotlight (27/12/2020) : My First Session

On 27th Dec. 2020, I attended my first session hosted by Varsha Jaiswal. Meaning of introspection is to examine your own thoughts or feelings, so in this topic we discussed a lot about ourselves like what we did good in 2020? What are the good and bad habits we learned in 2020? and whom we want to be grateful for in 2020? and so on…

I participated in every discussion without any hesitation because I knew no one is going to judge me and this really helps me to enhance my speaking skill. We also discussed everyone’s opinion about spotlight and Varsha told us so many things like being a spotlight does not only mean to be in a glamour, it means to be happy with yourself. I think it is a good platform for the people like me who are afraid to speak in public. After attending sessions and by involving in brainstorming discussions, my confidence to speak in public gradually enhanced.

Lean In and Go Ahead (31/01/2021) : My Second Session

Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead is a book written by Sheryl Sandberg and in this session, I got to know about so many things written in this book. We discussed that every girl has to participate in meetings. It does not matter if anyone listens to their opinions or not, if you start to participate maybe they don’t listen to your idea but you will learn something by listening to their ideas. We had a conversation on reaching at the top and aiming at the top and we discussed statistics of Indian jobs comparing men and women and more. I enjoyed the whole session. I can’t say that I was bored anywhere because everyone has the chance to present their thoughts and I just wanted to involve more and more in every topic, which I did.

The Last Episode (28/02/2021) : My Third Session

This session was conducted by Ashwani, Ritika and Vrijraj, they made this session really interesting. Ashwani told us about so many topics which are very important to know for our life like we have to map our goal and keep track of not only achievements, but also failures, and always be ready to say yes to the discomfort zone and appreciate yourself daily. And the part I like the most is never change your goal, always change your approach. Session by Ritika (one of our fellow) which was based on advantage and disadvantage when we live away from home. The disadvantages we face in the beginning like we have to take care of ourselves, homesickness and it’s hard to manage time and money. But after some time, we slowly learned how to manage everything and we became independent. And the last session was conducted by Vrijraj, he shared his knowledge on web development and he told us how we can make our career in web development along with so many additional things of web development.

I like to share my experience after joining. I really feel some changes because of the meetings my speaking skill is enhanced and I started to participate in every discussion.

Now I can say that it was a very amazing journey for me and I would love to join more and more sessions by WTM Jalandhar.
